The Spider by Hanna Delaney
A Muldoon Mystery
I stumbled upon Hanna Delaney's Substack just as I stumble on most accounts. Looking for something unrelated 🤣 And, let me just say, finding her book and publications was a great surprise. Now, I'm a big fan of a story that can be labeled 'a slow burn,' because when they're done well 👌 they're entertaining as most anything else. The Spider delivers and then some!
Now, no spoilers intended, but here's the best device to discover the conflict in a story:
Do you think this house is haunted?
Yes.
😂✊
To achieve this effect, an author MUST have completed all the groundwork to pull it off.
The Spider ✅ The character perspectives were great and really helped bring the story to life and when Muldoon enters...mic drop! Ok, I don't want to give anything away, but you gotta read it 👀
The story also epically incorporated spiritual elements to move the plot along, create tension, and maintain the fright factor. Now, as a reader, I'm hard to scare. When people claim to have seen ghosts in their house, they might run off...Imma charge them rent! 🤣 None-the-less, it kept me engaged! 😊
Oh, and the Ouji board scene: masterful 🤓 My final thoughts 💭 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great read!
